CERT training provides a base level of knowledge allowing trainees to support themselves, members of teir communities, and first responders during the initial response period following a disaster. The CERT training curriculum is by no means comprehensive; there are several opportunities for additional training, some of which is available at no cost.

Upcoming Calhoun County CERT Electives (Dates offerred to be determined):

Weekend Training:
- American Heart Association HeartSaver CPR+AED (8 hrs)
- Debris Removal and Chainsaw Operations (8 hrs)
- Volunteer Reception Center (8 hrs)
- Amateur Radio (20 hrs)

Weeknight (regular meeting) training:
- Advanced Staging Area Operations / Resource Management / Logistics (3 hrs)
- Triage and Treatment / Site Selection / Available Mass Casualty Resources (3 hrs)
- Shelter Setup / Support and Staffing / Phone Center Operations (3 hrs)

Additionally, CERT "Support Operations" 3 hr. weeknight modules are being developed to provide acquaintance with how Calhoun County CERT interfaces with existing agencies in the county, including:

Support Ops: Law Enforcement and Emergency Management (traffic control, door-to-door operations)
Support Ops: Search and Rescue (natural hazards, light search and rescue, logistical support)
Support Ops: Fire Service (logistics, fire prevention)
Support Ops: Public Health (pandemic influenza, biological and agricultural preparedness)
