The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities.
In an emergency, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.
The CERT course is taught in Calhoun County by a trained team of first responders who have completed a CERT Train-the-Trainer course conducted by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency.
CERT training includes disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression, basic disaster medical operations, and light search and rescue operations. Target groups to receive CERT training include: Community Watch, emergency communications & transportation groups, local businesses, church groups, and any other community-based group that can respond as a localized team in their area during times of disaster.
We are also working to provide Teen CERT and Campus CERT training to our area schools and college campuses. To take the CERT IS-317 course online:NOTE: While we encourage everyone to
take the online course, completion of
the 20-hour standard CERT classroom
course is required for all CERT members.

The Calhoun County EMA and Citizen Corps are participating together in the 19th annual Christmas Parade for Jacksonville. It will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1st at 6:30 p.m. I will have my pickup truck and trailer in the parking lot of Save A Lots by 5 pm so we should have more than enough time to decorate it. Everyone please dress warmly and bring a couple of large bags of candy to toss to the kids. This year's theme for the parade is "Twas the Night Before Christmas." If you have any extra garlands, stockings or wreaths to bring and use on our float please do so. If you are a member of CERT or DAWG or the Medical Reserve Corps you all ready know that you're included so come and join us!
Happy Holidays! Bill |
